PLEASE NOTE: This position is based in our Swiss HQ in Mendrisio, Switzerland, just 7km over the border from Como, Italy. Mendrisio is easily commutable from Milan, Como, Varese or Lugano and QA provides the train ticket for you! We are also happy to assist with your relocation to this beautiful part of Europe.

About the role

We are looking for an Engineering Manager with expertise in Front-End or Back-End technologies (or both) who will help take our product to the next level.

In this position, you will work hands-on in a development role while managing a team of Front-End and Back-End engineers who move seamlessly from full-stack web development to mobile and deployment/scaling.

The Engineering Manager will take ownership of how features are implemented from user experience to backend, involving our web app, mobile app, APIs, and backend infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage, mentor and grow a team of 3-5 engineers
  • Write well-structured, maintainable, idiomatic code with good documentation; unit tests for every feature, bug fixing, and code reviews.
  • Communicate with the rest of the company (e.g. sales, marketing, UX, etc.) to ensure the functionality you're implementing is what was intended.
  • Collaborate on a cross-functional team, including developers, designers, and product managers, to develop and improve our product.
  • Keep upper management up to date on progress and ensure their support for the team’s projects


Job requirements

  • Hands on leadership experience leading teams
  • Passion for coding, web technologies, and shipping features that drive user adoption
  • If your strength is on the back-end: strong understanding of server-side technologies such as Kotlin, Springboot, Python, FastAPI, and Relational databases: PostgreSQL, Redis; Advanced knowledge and experience on modern web patterns: AJAX, RESTful APIs, GraphQL, WebSocket, client-side rendering, etc.; Understanding of client-side technologies: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, Bootstrap, Web Components
  • If your strength is on the front-end: basic CSS3 knowledge; proficiency in JavaScript: ES6, Webpack, React, (React preferred); Experience with SPA (single page applications) and SSR (server-side rendering) with React (or any other modern JS framework)
  • Experience with distributed version control systems: mostly Git (GitHub and/or Bitbucket)
  • Familiar with cloud-oriented technologies: AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, Docker
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written
